Free entry to the hottest music festivals

Volunteering at festivalsWe’ve barely had time to get over the Christmas cash crisis, and it’s already time to register for Glastonbury tickets at £125 a pop. We’re skint, and the thought of missing out on another summer of live music is just depressing. But you can get yourself into the summer’s hottest festivals without spending a penny by volunteering as a festival steward.

Lauren volunteered for Oxfam at last year’s Glastonbury festival. She says: “I had always wanted to go to the festivals and never seemed to have enough money, so this was a perfect opportunity for me. I met a totally amazing group of people and we have all kept in touch. I loved it so much I'm going to do it all over again this year.”

I'm dressing up as a wind turbine at Glastonbury Oxfam has a presence at all the key festivals, including Glastonbury, Leeds, Reading and Bestival, and will be recruiting stewards from the beginning of March 2008. Oxfam gets paid to provide stewards, so by volunteering you’re enjoying great music and raising money to fight poverty and suffering.

Keep checking Oxfam’s Generation Why site for the latest on festival volunteering - when places are released, you will have to move quickly to bag your place.

People & Planet is the UK student campaigning organisation working to end world poverty, defend human rights, and protect the environment. They’ll soon be recruiting lovely, hard-working stewards to work with us at the Secret Garden Party, Green Man and Bestival. You can sign up for information on the People and Planet website.

Be warned, demand for stewarding places is very high, so you need to be on the ball.
