Talk and take action with the Coffeehouse Challenge
Is there a local issue that really gets under your skin? Could you bring members of your local community together to discuss the problem? Could your group of like-minded folk come up with a solution that allows you to take action for local change? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, then the RSA Coffeehouse Challenge is the vehicle you are looking for, so climb aboard now. The Coffeehouse Challenge is very simple; it's about getting local people to come together over coffee to talk about community issues they care about and to take action for local change.
Coffeehouse Challenge conversations don’t have to go any further – they can be enjoyable events in themselves. However, where ideas do develop into projects, the RSA, Starbucks and T-Mobile are offering a share of over £20,000 in awards to help some of the best initiatives get off the ground.
Conversations can take place in June, July and August, and normally last between one and two hours. Many are hosted in Starbucks coffee houses where a comfortable space and complimentary drinks are provided. Where there isn’t a Starbucks coffee house, events can be held in any welcoming space, for example community centres, colleges, libraries or parks.
You can run your own Coffeehouse Challenge, or go along to one that’s already happening. Either way, it’s a chance to have your say about what’s going on in your area – with free coffee thrown in.
