Get Involved with Citizens Advice
Are you aged 16 to 25? Are you looking for a unique volunteering opportunity that will combine giving something back to your community along with gaining worthwhile experience and training? The Get Involved project at Citizens Advice could be what you are looking for. Get Involved is offering full time volunteering opportunities in Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) in Stoke-on-Trent, Sutton, Merton and Lambeth. You could volunteer as an advisor, administrator, receptionist or, if you really want to push for change, in social policy and campaigning. Full training will be given plus you will have the opportunity to gain widely recognised qualifications in your area of interest.
About Citizens Advice
Citizens Advice is an independent charity that offers the general public free, confidential and impartial information and advice on a variety of practical matters that affect people’s daily lives. These range from employment, benefits, housing, debt, legal advice (for a range of concerns such as getting divorced or immigration issues), education, health and so on.
The charity is also very much involved in campaigning for change in social policy. For example, after much campaigning they were able to persuade the government to amend the Housing Bill so that tenants would no longer be in danger of losing all or part of their deposit.
Hand on volunteering
Volunteering through Get Involved is very hands on. For example, as an advisor you will be responsible for trying to help people with whatever queries or problems that they might have, which in turn will increase your competence and confidence in your chosen field.
Finally, Get Involved is open to all young people in these areas. Do not pass up this opportunity to help out your local community, make new friends and also lay the foundations for the next few years of your life and future career. Think about it: six months is nothing for something that is guaranteed to change your life.
All travel expenses will be paid and including lunch and extra costs such as child care. You do not need to fill out any kind of application forms, just take yourself along to your local Citizens Advice Bureau (or even ring them) and ask to be referred to the person responsible for the Get Involved full-time project.
